Q: Please give a brief
overview of Ascentia.
A: We’re a family-
based in Littleton,
Colo. Our vision is
to provide distinctive
living in affordable
housing, in attractive
neighborhoods with a community feeling.
Q: How has Ascentia’s technology
roadmap changed over the last five years?
A: We went through a challenging time
starting in 2008, as did many other
companies. We needed to lower our
operating costs and meet more stringent
management reporting requirements.
To do so, we needed to better manage
our data and reporting or risk lagging
behind the competition. Our business
requirements were also becoming more
sophisticated. We needed to rent properties
rather than follow the typical mobile home
model of just collecting rent. We wanted a
solution that supported all of our property
management information and tasks, and
Yardi Voyager™ was the right fit. Voyager
has been the backbone of everything we do
since 2010. We use it to manage move-ins,

for our board and investors.
Q: What kind of results did you realize?
A: In the first year after implementing
Voyager, we enjoyed 16% revenue growth,
half of which we attribute to better
collections and receivables management
with Voyager. The other half was
occupancy gains, for which Voyager was
indirectly responsible by helping us get
better people into our communities and
better manage our workflow.
Q: How did you resolve these issues?
A: When we learned about Yardi Energy
Solutions,™ we immediately wanted to
bring it onboard. Not only does it help
us reduce our administrative burden and
eliminate errors from manual processing,
it also provides analytics. We’re able to
see how residents are using water and
electricity and whether their level of usage
is appropriate; all of these tools are at
our fingertips. That is what I love about

Q: Can you describe a recent
A: Yes. We had issues with our previous
energy solutions and billing system. Our
old, homegrown system was a patchwork
of Access databases. When we divided the
bills from our utility providers and billed
them back to the residents, we were doing
that essentially by hand.
