An upfront and honest discussion
on starting your career
TALES FROM THE FRONT:
Four panelists from different backgrounds compared their
lessons and “things I wish someone would have told me” in
a session called, Tales from the Front: An Upfront and Honest
Discussion on Starting Your Career.
Speaking about everything from bridging the generational
employee/employer gap in the workplace, to managing
expectations and remaining patient while climbing the ladder
to success, to honing customer service and communication
skills on the job, the panel provided candid, real-life advice
and encouragement to those in the audience.
One of the panelists, Nicholas Dunlap, CPM, said that
“there’s really so much going on, you never see the same
thing twice. No matter how odd or strange or bizarre a movie
might be, the truth of real life in the real estate management
business is stranger than fiction.”
The audience walked away with new insights into how to
support new practitioners to achieve maximum productivity
and hit the ground running.

“Knowing the numbers
is key. You also have
to be able to relate to
people. Communicating
differently to different
audiences is very
important.”

“Typically plans don’t
work out how they’re
supposed to. If you’re
driven and work hard,
things will work out. If
your plan doesn’t work
out, just stay driven.”

“As a younger

you can make it to the

not the case. Plan for
speed bumps and for
things not going your
way all the time.”
